Training Facility Expansion for Automotive Manufacturing

Project Specifications:

The Training Facility Expansion for an Automotive Manufacturing plant is located in Georgetown, KY where workers are instructed on the manufacturing and assembly of automobiles including hybrid vehicles. F&H was retained to serve as the LEED Consultant and Commissioning agent on this LEED V.2 Certified Silver Project. As LEED Consultant, F&H registered the project, coordinated the LEED related strategies, monitored job site progress, addressed credit interpretation rulings and assembled the final submittal. As Commissioning agent, F&H provided full service verifications for all mechanical, electrical power, and instrumentation/control systems designed for the project.

The main sustainable design strategies used on this project included:

  • The overall domestic water consumption and the amount of wastewater sent to municipal treatment systems was reduced through the use of low flow water closets, urinals, lavatories, and showers.
  • The amount of domestic water used for sewage conveyance was further reduced by the use of a gray water recovery system. The gray water recovery system draws water from the storm water retention basin then filters it and supplies it to the low flow water closets and urinals for flushing.
  • This project has no irrigation system and utilizes drought tolerant landscaping plants indigenous to central Kentucky.

This multi-faceted water conservation approach resulted in a 100% reduction in domestic water use for sewage conveyance and an 80.25% reduction in overall domestic water consumption.
